The Cusp is a discussion of new thinking, new schools of thought and fresh ideas on public policy. The inspiration came originally from the events that unfolded towards the end of 2008. The Australian elections of 2007 had ushered in a new government. In the US, the primaries were reaching inexorably to their historic conclusion. The near collapse of the global financial system and the events that followed along with the emergence of the G20 were all coming to a head.
In my personal life, I had just completed my second masters in public policy with Carnegie Mellon in Adelaide and had taken on a new role in a new department in state government. The excess energy that remained after I had spent some time catching up with my home and work life began to get the better of me. The new tools and perspectives that I gained from my newly minted graduate degree were bubbling over in search of an outlet.
The Cusp was the product of that desire to put my thoughts, reflections and observations into some intelligible form. That was the intention at least. I admit, I am not always up to the task, so hopefully, with the engagement of you, dear reader, I can present them with better insight, understanding and wisdom. Hopefully the interaction becomes mutually beneficial and can lead us to always be on the cusp of something new.
